Clean Water and Hygiene Infrastructure

Improving access to clean water and sanitation helps prevent malnutrition and supports healthy child development.

Local Action, Lasting Changes, Our Impact

We partner with men’s and women’s groups to promote healthy hygiene. In Nigeria, we're engaging men to support the use of simple handwashing stations in rural communities.

Promoting Hygiene to Prevent Disease

To prevent disease outbreaks, we provide hygiene kits, build latrines and handwashing stations, and install water filters in schools, health centers, and communities—even in remote areas like Paguir, South Sudan. We also teach safe practices like handwashing, using clean utensils, and drawing water from protected sources.

Expanding Access to Clean Water

In areas with scarce or unsafe water, we drill wells, decontaminate old ones, install hand-pumps, protect springs, and tap aquifers to bring clean water to remote villages and health centers. We also use innovative solutions like solar-powered irrigation and, during emergencies, deliver water by truck and set up storage tanks and reservoirs.

Developing Lasting Solutions Around The World

Sustainable change starts with community partnership. We train elected water committees to manage water and sanitation systems and support local health teams to promote lasting hygiene and sanitation practices, even after a well is built.

Dirty Water & Poor Hygiene Fuel Malnutrition

We can’t fight hunger without addressing waterborne diseases. Each day, thousands of children die from dirty water, poor sanitation, and unsafe living conditions. Without clean water, illnesses like diarrhea and parasites prevent nutrient absorption, increasing the risk of malnutrition and long-term health problems.

Clean Water: In Short Supply

Conflict and climate change are major drivers of water scarcity. Droughts are growing more intense, floods contaminate water sources, and insecurity disrupts farming and food supply chains, making access to clean water and food increasingly difficult.
